I couldn’t be more excited to share these photos from Zia and Adam’s wedding – a day filled with laughter, joy, and undeniable love.
Three weeks ago, on September 9th 2017, two longtime friends – Zia and Adam – were married under a bright blue sky overlooking the picturesque mountains just outside Augusta, Maine. A few months ago I photographed Zia and Adam’s engagement, so of course this post has been coming, but I can honestly say that the ceremony and reception that made up this wedding were more beautiful than I ever could have imagined. And judging by the looks of pure happiness on Zia and Adam’s faces, I’d venture to say that they too were pretty pleased with the way it turned out… that, and of course the fact that they were about the spend the rest of their lives with each other.
Much like shooting their engagement photos, Zia and Adam made photographing their wedding easy. Save for the running around and last minute arrangements that serve as the precursor for almost any wedding, the whole day played out in near perfection. From the heart warming vows written by the couple and recited during the ceremony, to the tear jerking speeches given by both sets of parents during the reception, to the first dance Zia and Adam shared, peppered with the perfect amount of laughter, fun, and tenderness, the whole day could not have been more magical. But what truly made photographing these two longtime friends on one of the happiest days of their lives such an enjoyable experience was getting to feel the pure love so obviously shared between them. Like I said in their engagement post, these two aren’t the most lovey-dovey of couples, but one look at them on their wedding day and there was no question about the undeniable bond that they share – and will share for the rest of their lives.
Having known Zia quite a long time, I can say honestly that she is someone who thrives on perfection and organization. Having known Adam almost as long, I’ll say that he’s almost the complete opposite; just about as laid back and go-with-the-flow as you can get. This is one of the things that makes them such a perfect couple – she’s the ying to his yang and vice versa, if you will – but I think it’s also what kept Zia grounded during the whirlwind of a week leading up to the wedding itself. At the rehearsal dinner the night before, I caught a quick moment with Adam to ask him about the fabled pre-wedding jitters that I assumed every groom-to-be experiences. He told me he wasn’t freaking out at all – knowing Adam, this didn’t surprise me all that much – but that Zia was doing enough freaking out for the both of them. Being fully aware of how much work, planning and preparation Zia had put into this wedding, and I secretly crossed my fingers that absolutely nothing would go wrong. While the two of them certainly have enough humor in their relationship to take any problems that could have arisen in stride, I’m also happy to say that every single detail worked out perfectly.
Up until literally the Saturday morning of the wedding, the weather for the day had been predicted as thunderstorms – for an outdoor wedding this can be the kiss of death. But the weather turned out to be just as perfect as the rest of the wedding; not a drop of rain (save for a short 15 minute shower, long after the outdoor ceremony had ended) with cottony clouds serving as the backdrop for Zia and Adam’s first look, and the sun setting over the hillside bathing the two in golden light just as they shared their first kiss. Plus a rainbow made an appearance just before the reception, the third of the weekend – what could be more magical than that! The rest of the night played out in laughter and joy, with a fittingly fun dinner of barbecue (some of the best wedding food I’ve ever had!) and a fantastic band cranking out Motown tunes perfect for dancing.
But instead of continuing to describe this fantastic wedding, I’ll go ahead and do what I do most of the time: let my pictures do the talking. Starting with Zia and the girls getting ready, followed by the first look, the family shots, and then the ceremony, and rounded out with the reception and lots of dancing, I hope that I can bring to you even a fraction of the joy felt by everyone in attendance that day. So without further ado, take a look at Zia and Adam’s wedding photos, and of course, congratulations to the happy couple!
