If you had a little too much to drink last night, this breakfast taco – chock full of super foods – will cure all of your hangover ailments and get you right back on track for your day
I’ll be the first to admit that my family loves to party. And sometimes the result of those parties, which are always incredibly fun in the moment, can be a bit of a nasty hangover the next morning. You know the kind, we’ve all been there. Your head is hurting, your body is aching, your stomach is turning, and you’re most likely regretting those last few drinks. Eventually, as terrible as you feel, you need to start your day. Maybe you need to get up and go to work, or have brunch with your parents, or maybe you don’t even need to get out of bed except to try and make yourself feel even a little bit better.
That’s where this hangover breakfast taco comes in. It’s salty, savory, just a tiny bit greasy, and best of all, all those classic breakfast taco ingredients like avocado, tomatoes, beans, and eggs are actually working hard to get your body back on track after a long night of drinking. Here’s a breakdown of why the ingredients of the breakfast taco make it the ultimate hangover food.
Avocado:
This heart healthy fruit has been proven beneficial in boosting liver function and healing damage, helping your body break down all the toxins leftover from alcohol. It will also work to counteract the loss of potassium that heavy drinking can cause, banishing any muscle spasms or even dizziness and weakness that a loss of this essential electrolyte can lead to. And as a healthy fat it will satiate your body’s craving for rich fatty foods after a night of drinking.
Beans:
Beans are an excellent choice for a hangover because they are chock full of magnesium, which helps dispel muscle weakness, spasms, and cramps, helping you get up and moving in the morning.
Tomatoes:
Like avocado, tomatoes are also rich in potassium and have also been proven to boost liver function.
Cilantro:
This leafy herb, which no taco is complete without, has been shown to contain a unique blend of oils that work to calm an upset stomach, another classic side affect of a hangover.
Eggs:
Eggs are a breakfast staple for a reason; they pack a punch of hand working amino acids such as cysteine, which breaks down alcohol’s leftovers toxins, and taurine, which boots liver function. The yolk also contains an abundance of nutrients like vitamin D, vitamin B12, and calcium, to get your body back on track after a night out.
