Turmeric lattes have tons of health benefits and are perfect for people (like me) who don’t love coffee. The addition of cookie butter amps up the warm spices in this already cozy drink.
Turmeric lattes, also called a golden milk lattes, are one of my favorite winter-time drinks. They are cozy and super warming, with tons of wintry spices like cinnamon, ginger and black pepper. While called a latte because of the use of warmed or steamed milk, turmeric lattes don’t actually contain any coffee. Instead, the main ingredient is turmeric, a spice made from the root of a flowering plant. Turmeric is what gives this drink it’s beautiful bright yellow color, the reason for its “golden” moniker.
Like ginger, turmeric is incredibly earthy, but without the spice. It is a little peppery, perfect for a warming winter drink, and can be slightly bitter. This bitterness is offset in a turmeric latte by the use of a sweetener such as honey or agave, or in this case, cookie butter. Cookie butter, made from pulverized spice cookies, plays perfectly with the earthy turmeric and other cozy spices in this turmeric latte.
HEALTH BENEFITS OF TURMERIC
While there are many reasons to drink a turmeric latte (because you don’t drink coffee, because it’s downright delicious) my favorite reason to drink them just may be because of turmeric’s health benefits. Turmeric contains curcumin, which has a whole bevy of health benefits. It is a natural anti-inflammatory and increases the antioxidant capacity of the body. It can lower your risk of heart disease, and has even been experimented with in treating cancer and Alzheimer’s. And when combined with black pepper, as it is in this recipe, the body is more able to absorb curcumin, boosting these benefits even more. If these health benefits aren’t enough for you, try this cookie butter turmeric latter because simply put: it’s super good. It’s perfect for cold winter nights, holiday mornings, or just about any time.
