These berry and avocado smoothie bowls are the perfect filling and super healthy breakfast or lunch that will make you feel like you’re eating desert.
Smoothie bowls are a favorite lunch of mine, especially in the warmer months. For those who don’t know, smoothie bowls are basically a smoothie that’s thick enough to pour into a bowl, sprinkle with toppings, and eat with a spoon. Eating one basically feels like eating ice cream that’s actually really good for you. As spring approaches and the weather starts to warm up, I’ve been craving one of these sweet and cold smoothie bowls. So as I do with most recipes, I decided to put my own spin on one by making berry and avocado smoothie bowls. They are extra smooth and creamy and taste so good you won’t even care about how good they are for you.
I know avocado sounds like a weird thing to add to a smoothie or a smoothie bowl, but it actually works really well in this recipe. Avocados are super creamy, and that creaminess translates to the smoothie bowl in a way that really will make you feel like you’re eating ice cream. And most of the ingredients in this smoothie bowl are super sweet, so the avocado acts as the prefect earthy offset to all that sweetness. I guarantee, once you try avocado in a smoothie, you’ll never want to go back.
A DESERT-LIKE BUT SUPER HEALTHY BREAKFAST
These berry and avocado smoothie bowls may taste like desert, but they are actually super good for you. Berries are loaded with antioxidants, high in fiber, great for blood sugar, and have tons of vitamins and nutrients. And avocados are packed with their own powerhouse of vitamins and nutrients as well. Plus they are fantastic for your cholesterol with all those healthy fats, and they’ll make you feel full. So if you needed any more reason to eat a breakfast and lunch that really feels like you’re eating desert, the health benefits of these avocado smoothie bowls should convince you. After reading them, you’ll be even more convinced to try these berry and avocado smoothie bowls, just in case the desert-for-breakfast angle wasn’t enough.
CUSTOMIZING YOUR SMOOTHIE BOWL
By using my base recipe, you can customize these smoothie bowls however you like. I chose to use a blend of frozen berries that includes blueberries, blackberries and raspberries, but you can use your favorites. I like to include peanut butter in my smoothie bowls because it gives peanut-butter-and jelly-vibes. But again, almond butter, sunflower butter, or really any nut would work here as well. But definitely don’t skip the avocado in these smoothie bowls! They’ll be extra creamy, not too sweet, and filling enough to have for dinner.
